Jewelry Care
For permanent jewelry, we use 14k gold filled + sterling silver.
For non-permanent jewelry we use 14k gold filled + 18k gold plated stainless steel.
Materials will always be specified in an item's description.
GOLD FILLED 101
Gold filled is the next best thing after solid gold.
It’s actually regulated by the government + required to meet certain standards. The super thick gold layer makes it waterproof, hypoallergenic, durable + long lasting.
However, because of the way it’s made, gold filled is not the best option for intricate / detailed designs.
That’s where our gold plated jewelry comes in.
GOLD PLATED 101
Gold allergy is rare + gold doesn't oxidize.
Gold plated jewelry usually only tarnishes + causes skin reactions because of the base metal. Think about the Statue of Liberty. It's made of copper and over time has oxidized into its current greenish color.
When the base metal oxidizes it can cause the gold plating to lift and chip away - which exposes the base metal, causing skin reactions. Gold is also porous. So, extra sensitive skin may react to the base metal regardless.
That’s why we use stainless steel as the base metal.
Stainless steel is non-reactionary + hypoallergenic.
Think: kitchen sinks, nail salon tools - things that are constantly submerged in water + chemicals, just fine.
the result: high quality, long lasting gold jewelry that's still affordable!
CARE TIPS
We’re proud of the quality we provide!
Our jewelry is durable - but not indestructible.
To ensure longevity, it's BEST to avoid exposure to water + chemicals, remove jewelry to sleep, shower, swim + exercise and store jewelry in a cool dry place.
But dea jewelry is made be lived in!
So, after exposure to chemicals - lotions, perfumes, pool + ocean water, etc. - rinse with clean water. Use mild soap if needed. Then, pat dry using a soft cloth - don't rub. Do not use jewelry cleaner.
If your jewelry begins to look dull, it’s probably residue - sweat, salt water, lotion, fake tan, dust, etc. To restore shine, follow the same guidelines above.
Manufacturing errors can happen sometimes.
If you think your jewelry is faulty in some way, don't hesitate to contact us.
